You know that moment in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when Ron and Harry have to follow the spiders because they are trying to find who the monster in the chamber is? And everybody knows Ron hates spiders.
This is a crucial moment in Harry and Ron’s relationship. Ron knows that Harry is endlessly curious and won’t just let a mystery go. Especially when someone he loves is in danger, in this case it was Hagrid who was accused of being the Heir of Slytherin. But Ron is fiercely loyal even at twelve years old. So he sticks by Harry’s side until the end. BFF’s forever, man.
Another example is Sam and Frodo from Lord of the Rings. In the very last episode, Frodo is struggling to reach Mount Doom and his relationship with Sam is a bit shaky. (You know the whole “Go home, Sam!” thing.) But Sam is also fiercely loyal like Ron and follows Frodo and Smeagol to the mountain and when Frodo falls and fails to get back up, Sam picks him up and carries both him and the Ring into the volcano.
Which is probably my favorite part of the entire series. I don’t think we give the underdogs enough credit, honestly. They are the true heroes of the stories.
